AFI is a customer-focused organization that is committed to providing its members with an independent, fast and responsive service that delivers results as rapidly as possible. We are:

Independent: AFI is managed by GTZ with funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, but the choice, control and direction of the policy solutions is determined solely by individual countries’ policymakers – they understand their nations’ needs better than anyone. We only provide the tools and resources, free of any vested national or commercial interests, in line with the Paris Declaration. We are evidence-based, and all long-term grants are assessed by regional panels of impartial experts.

Customer-driven: AFI is a results-driven organization with the flexibility and determination to seize all opportunities to increase financial access to the poor, safely and ethically. We respond rapidly and creatively both to our customers – policymakers in developing countries – and to our strategic partners.

Inclusive: We embrace all proven solutions and all partners who share our goal and our high professional standards, including honesty, transparency and accountability. We do not view ourselves as different or better than others but as an organisation that enables everyone to optimize their resources by focusing their efforts on the most effective, appropriate and evidence-based solutions.
